We had so much fun with our dining room shoot, that we’ve decided to do it again but in a totally different color scheme. We switched out all the pinks and greens for yellows, and aquas. When you have a neutral base (white table and chairs, a subtle wall color and neutral drapes) this is so easy for anyone to do. My favorite decorating advice it just that- keep the main pieces neutral then add accent colors with pillows, artwork, flowers, etc.. Not only is this easy an easy way to decorate, but also affordable! {So what did we do differently?} 1. We used hydrangeas instead of peonies in the milk bottles because they were in season. 2. We simplified our napkin ring even more by just adding a simple daylily to it. 3. We used a different arrangement of vintage table clothes. 4. We took a simple white plate then dolled it up with an aqua saucer (found at Goodwill for $.99 each) 5. We changed up the centerpiece with flowers, etc. (We took the coffee out of the vintage canister, and added hydrangeas instead!)
And that’s our Brunch Affair Color Switch!!! Take a look at the differences below!!!

There was some curiosity on the jam recipe we used for our raspberry butter cream cake so we would like to share it with you! We admit, we did not make it ourselves. It was a very sweet hostess gift that I received when hosting a bridal shower for my sister. So please enjoy the recipe, compliments of my friend Kate! {Stay tuned for some fun jam jar packaging ideas!}

We had so many comments on the beautiful cake from A BRUNCH AFFAIR so we thought we’d give you a little more info on it. We love baking, but we also love eating what we bake so I try to limit ourselves. Sweets are our thing! Anyone who knows us knows how much we both love cake. No need for ice cream with it, just plain cake with sugary frosting…and all self-control is lost! So, when choosing what to make for the Dining Room Shoot, cake was on the top of our list. We decided to take a simple white cake with buttercream frosting and give it some sweet accessories. We used a delicious homemade mixed berry jam to sweeten up the middle, then topped it off with a bed of fresh raspberries. I used my Pampered Chef Cake Decorator tool to make the beaded detail- so simple, yet so sweet! After the cake is completely cooled, add a layer of frosting and jam to the top of one round. Top with the other round so the frosting/jam mix is in the middle. Some great ideas for jam substitutes are jelly of any flavor, lemon cream cheese, coconut, pineapple, chocolate, custard, candy bars and anything you can think of…but remember to change your topping and/or frosting flavor to match. Use a spatula or a baker’s knife to spread the frosting. If it starts to pull the cake apart, stop and put in the freezer for a few minutes to cool it. Use your cake decorator {our favorite is from The Pampered Chef} to decorate. Top with fresh raspberries and keep cold so the raspberries won’t melt red on to your frosting. The secret to this cake…is the raspberry jam mixed with frosting between the 2 layers of cake. We also added a dense layer of raspberries on the top of the cake…what color!!! ![]()
