Darling “love” Pillow

 JosieJones is all about SIMPLE projects!  We love to repurpose items, or transform them into something new.  This pillow is a perfect example of that.  After making up my bed with my “Spring~Summer” bedding, I decided a new pillow was in order.  Well, not necessarily new- but an old pillow with a little “LOVE” added to it.  See our simple tutorial below!

Materials Used:

Pillow

Fabric {I confess, I cut up a darling hot pink chambray shirt I had, but hadn’t worn in forever…}

Scissors and pinking sheers

Heat-n-Bond

Print text on cardstock paper

Iron

Pencil

I began by printing a word on cardstock to the size I need, then cut it out with my scissors.

Next I cut a piece of the Heat-n-bond to the size of the word.

I then ironed it onto my fabric per the package instuctions {remember to flip the word as you are actually working with the back of your final design}.

Then I traced my word cut-out onto the Heat-n-bond.

I decided to use my pinking sheers to cut out my word. The scalloped edge gave it a sweet feminine feel.

So once I cut out the word, I peeled off the paper backing of the Heat-n-bond and positioned it onto my pillow then ironed it into place.

{It’s important to hold the iron still and in place and press it firmly.}

So that’s how you add a little “LOVE” to an old pillow to make it new again!

Have a great day! ~ Natalie

When choosing which room to feature this month, we decided that my spring bedroom {aka “my LOVE nest”} was a great choice to share with you all!  As an Interior Designer, I’m able to get my decorating fixes through my clients homes and rarely seem to change up my own decor.  My bedrooms however, is one room I like to change up with the season.  It’s the room people see the least, but is the room I seem to love the most.  So here is a sneak peak of what you will see this month!  We’ve got some fun and simple DIYs that we hope will inspire you and ease you into spring!!!  Kim also has created some fabulous Valentine printables that you are sure to love!!!  Stay tuned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

{Oh and yes… little miss Josie decided to be in our shoot this month!}

A “Girlie Girl” Room Makeover

The Challenge:  To convert an office/playroom into a sister’s bedroom/playroom without 2 little girls finding out.

The Result:  2 very surprised and delighted sisters!

Being the mother of 3 boys, I always JUMP at the offer to do up a little girls room!  This job was double the fun as it was for 2 sweet little sisters, and it was going to be a BIG surprise!  These little gals love to read, dress up, listen to music, play kitchen, do art projects, etc. so we had a lot to fit into this space but it all worked out perfectly!

Making the Amazing Raspberry Buttercream Cake

We had so many comments on the beautiful cake from A BRUNCH AFFAIR so we thought we’d give you a little more info on it.  We love baking, but we also love eating what we bake so I try to limit ourselves.  Sweets are our thing!  Anyone who knows us knows how much we both love cake.  No need for ice cream with it, just plain cake with sugary frosting…and all self-control is lost!  So, when choosing what to make for the Dining Room Shoot, cake was on the top of our list.  We decided to take a simple white cake with buttercream frosting and give it some sweet accessories.  We used a delicious homemade mixed berry jam to sweeten up the middle, then topped it off with a bed of fresh raspberries.  I used my Pampered Chef Cake Decorator tool to make the beaded detail- so simple, yet so sweet!

After the cake is completely cooled, add a layer of frosting and jam to the top of one round.  Top with the other round so the frosting/jam mix is in the middle.  Some great ideas for jam substitutes are jelly of any flavor, lemon cream cheese, coconut, pineapple, chocolate, custard, candy bars and anything you can think of…but remember to change your topping and/or frosting flavor to match.

Use a spatula or a baker’s knife to spread the frosting.  If it starts to pull the cake apart, stop and put in the freezer for a few minutes to cool it.  Use your cake decorator {our favorite is from The Pampered Chef} to decorate.

Top with fresh raspberries and keep cold so the raspberries won’t melt red on to your frosting.

Antique Cameo Napkin Ring

Our DIYs don’t get simpler than this!  We were so excited to come across these beautiful brooches at a garage sale this past weekend and thought this would be the perfect way to use them.  We decided to add a touch of rustic by using jute rope to tie around our custom linen napkin then pinned the antique brooch to the front for the final touch.  We especially loved the idea of the brooches being a unique favor for your guest to take home and they will too!  The brooches cost $2 each so not only easy, but very inexpensive!

Vintage White Cake with Buttercream Frosting

The secret to this cake…is the raspberry jam mixed with frosting between the 2 layers of cake.  We also added a dense layer of raspberries on the top of the cake…what color!!!
