More Office Organization

When organizing my office, a trip to IKEA was a must!!!  If you aren’t lucky enough to have one near you, a road trip may be in order!  Their Expedit book case paired with their Kassett storage bins offered a clean, crisp storage solution.  And it was my lucky day when I found this awesome Pottery Barn picture/card holder at a garage sale for $15.  But still amongst all the organization, I can always find room for some of my favorite things!

Organization and Inspiration

As a mom who works from home, it was very important for me to have my own space.  When dreaming up my home office, the color PINK was at the top of my list.  I am the mother of 3 boys so the color pink is quite sparse in my home.  Here was my chance…. my space, my color!!  The key was to keep it fun, yet organized.  The only colors in the office are pink, black, and white.  In a room that on a day to day basis has a hundred projects scattered amongst it, I needed to keep the overall color palette simple.  I also wanted to keep my storage functional yet decorative.  I love to use inexpensive white florist vases to hold tools like paintbrushes, etc.  Some of my other favorite organization pieces is a set of pink candy dishes and a matching relish tray that I use to hold paperclips, and other misc. items.  On my inspiration board above my desk, I’ve used homemade button magnets to hold items that inspire me.  My favorite is a picture of my sisters and I when we were little dressed in matching pink vests and knickers that my Grandma Anna had made.  She was an amazing seamstress, and although I don’t sew- I like to think I get much of my creativity from her.

Organize your Bedroom Storage

Without a dream walk-in closet, it takes some creativity when figuring out storage in your bedroom.  Below we’ve shared a few ideas from Natalie’s Bedroom.  She’s taken 2 small Shabby Chic baskets from Target and fit them perfectly under a cute little white bench to store socks.  The darling bench has a hinged top which has become the home to all the love notes and cards she receives from her husband and 3 young sons.  She has used a child sized coat tree that she bought at a yard sale for $15 to hang her favorite scarves and hats from.  And recently she gave a new look to an old pine trunk she received when she was a young girl which is the perfect home for her winter sweaters.  {Trunk makeover tutorial to come!}

Organize Your Bedroom and Jewelry

We both own 100+ year old homes so storage is always an issue for us.  We can only dream of the walk-in closets that often come with new homes, but for now we make what we have work.  We love to take our everyday decor and give it a function.  Below you’ll see a few great ways to house and display some of your favorite jewelry pieces.  We took an antique bottle that we found at a flea market for $10 and draped a collection of necklaces from it.  Also, these three little birds on stands worked great to hang bracelets from.  This allows your jewelry to be out in the open rather than tangled up in a box where it can be easily forgotten.

Organize Your Kitchen

Kitchens seem to have the most to organize, but the fewest opportunities for decorations.  The counters are usually filled with practical things like toasters, coffee makers, utensils, etc…  The kitchen also usually acts as “ground control” or at least it does in our homes.  This is where papers pile up, post-its are posted, spills happen, and garbage bins over flow.  For many of us, this is the room we spend most of our time in which makes it so important to keep it organized!  If you have a kitchen that lacks cabinet space as I do, you may need to get creative with your storage solutions.  For example, I’ve used an antique breadbox to store pads of paper, tape, rubberbands, etc.  It keeps it handy and within reach, yet out of site.  This allowed me to use a cute decoration on my counters but also get some great storage.  I also have a set of retro sugar, flour, and tea canisters on my counter that hold nothing of the sort.  The sugar can holds candy for the kids {ok I guess that’s sugar}, but the flour can holds camera supplies, and the tea can holds misc. cords/chargers/batteries.  Think outside the box {or can} when organizing and get creative!

My latest organization project was to tackle my paper build up.  I decided to nail 2 cute magazine bins from IKEA to the side of a cabinet.  They were the perfect solution to keep mail/school papers/etc. off the counters but within reach!
