Uses for your Jam Jars

So…you made the jam from our homemade Berry Jam recipe and enjoyed every last taste…or…you bought the jars and decided you are are never going to get to it!

Either way, the empty jars can be adorable accessories instead of recycling.  Check out these 3 clever uses for empty {and clean} jam jars.  Thank you to Pinterest for having such wonderful ideas all in one place.

Jam Jar Idea no. 2: Click Here {As you may not be able to see, the jar lid is glued to the underneath of a shelf so the jar can still be unscrewed}

Jam Jar Idea no. 3: Click Here {I love this…a great way to display and minimize dust!!}

Fresh Homemade Lemonade

There’s nothing better than a glass of cold fresh lemonade on a summer day!  Add some color to yours by garnishing with some berries.  {Freeze the berries ahead of time to help keep your drink cold.  Better yet, drop some berries in your ice cube trays, cover with water and freeze.} The berries give your lemonade a unique twist and a fun punch of color!

For a quick Store-Buy lemonade, we found this adorable bottle at Kowalski’s.

Brunch Affair Color Switch!

We had so much fun with our dining room shoot, that we’ve decided to do it again but in a totally different color scheme.  We switched out all the pinks and greens for yellows, and aquas.  When you have a neutral base (white table and chairs, a subtle wall color and neutral drapes) this is so easy for anyone to do.  My favorite decorating advice it just that- keep the main pieces neutral then add accent colors with pillows, artwork, flowers, etc..  Not only is this easy an easy way to decorate, but also affordable!

{So what did we do differently?}

1. We used hydrangeas instead of peonies in the milk bottles because they were in season.

2.  We simplified our napkin ring even more by just adding a simple daylily to it.

3.  We used a different arrangement of vintage table clothes.

4.  We took a simple white plate then dolled it up with an aqua saucer (found at Goodwill for $.99 each)

5.  We changed up the centerpiece with flowers, etc.  (We took the coffee out of the vintage canister, and added hydrangeas instead!)

We’re so excited to have our Brunch Affair featured in the April 2012 issue of Romantic Homes Magazine!!!

And that’s our Brunch Affair Color Switch!!! Take a look at the differences below!!!

Berry Jam Recipe

There was some curiosity on the jam recipe we used for our raspberry butter cream cake so we would like to share it with you!  We admit, we did not make it ourselves.  It was a very sweet hostess gift that I received when hosting a bridal shower for my sister.  So please enjoy the recipe, compliments of my friend Kate!

{Stay tuned for some fun jam jar packaging ideas!}

Antique Cameo Napkin Ring

Our DIYs don’t get simpler than this!  We were so excited to come across these beautiful brooches at a garage sale this past weekend and thought this would be the perfect way to use them.  We decided to add a touch of rustic by using jute rope to tie around our custom linen napkin then pinned the antique brooch to the front for the final touch.  We especially loved the idea of the brooches being a unique favor for your guest to take home and they will too!  The brooches cost $2 each so not only easy, but very inexpensive!

Dessert and flowers….. two of our favorite things!  Add some coffee and we are on cloud nine.  This dining room looked much different 12 years ago.  It was dark and dreary to say the least, but with a coat of paint and a new light fixture it began to have a whole new personality.  I decided to use a mix of old and new when choosing the right dining room set.  I purchase the crisp white pedestal table from IKEA, then paired it with some old chippy chairs I found at tag sales.  I chose 2 slightly more formal chairs to go with 4 fun side chairs.  All 6 chairs cost me less than $100.  The rest of the decor has about the same theme, crisp white ceramic pieces beside a chippy and rusty tin….matches made in heaven:).  Hope you enjoy!!!
