Bachman’s IDEA House Bed and Bath

If you are fortunate enough to live in the Twin Cities, the Bachman’s Idea House is a must-go!

Bachman’s is a floral, gift and garden store with a location that also has a 1900′s house on the property.  They have brilliantly used the house to host several tours throughout the year.  In these tours, the rooms are decorated differently each time, with fresh and inventive decorating ideas plus a beautiful way to incorporate great taste using recycled materials.  Here are some photo of our most recent trip to the Spring Ideas tour.  There is way too much eye candy for one post so we will feature a different set of rooms every other day.  Look closely at everything…there are so many ideas in each room!

All the Before Photos and More Organization Ideas

Our favorite part of room redos…the amazing before and after shots!

Our first monthly photo shoot was in June, which was before the launch of the site and posts/updates.  Natalie’s amazing bathroom was featured in June with many fun and simple projects…but we thought we better address the dramatic difference because it is really fun to see!

…and here are the amazing after shots…

What an amazing transformation {and a lot of sweat and tears…literally}!  It is such a clean, relaxing space now that I can hardly believe what it looked like before.

Here are the Before photos of Kim’s Bath…

…and after…

Here are a few more great Pinterest ideas for bathroom organization…

kim’s bath

About 1 month after we bought our 1911 dream home, the kitchen ceiling caved in with water.  A leaky toilet upstairs went undetected for a long time…resulting in a pool of water that rotted out and molded the entire upstairs bathroom and kitchen ceiling below it all.  We thought we had such bad luck…but it turned out to be an amazing mishap!  We created a custom and beautiful bath that we all love to be in!

In a nutshell, we ripped out the old sink, toilet, wainscotting, floor/subfloor and walls.  It was down to nothing but a great old bathtub.  This meant we got to choose it all from the tile to the countertop.

Here is what we did…

1. freehand painted the design on the tub then sanded it for a worn look. {and added pads under the feet}

2.  laid a new subfloor and added white hex tile with black grout.

3.  painted the old mirror frame and sconces white {they were gold}.

4.  added new wallpaper from wallpaperstogo.com {these guys are amazing…the best prices, great customer service, excellent choices and speedy delivery}.  I found this wallpaper in the clearance section!

5.  added the bead board and trim {we used a PVC rather than wood because it was a wet area room}.

6.  new toilet {installed the correct way this time…last time it was the install that gave way to the leaking}.

7.  custom made the sink area {see below}.

8.  painted anything I could a sparkling white.

We finished with accessories…I keep extra hand towels {which are cloth napkins from Pier One} in a wooden cheese box on top the toilet, accessories hidden in a cabinet above the toilet and in the drawers under the sink.

Easy and inexpensive organization…

1. Ball jars coordinate with the colors of my whole house…so I use them everywhere and for everything.  I found the jars and the crate at estate sales.  I usually pay about $1 or less for these items.

2. My favorite soap dispenser set in the world! $9.99 at IKEA for the set of soap dispenser, mouthwash dispenser, glass and bar soap holder {these 2 pieces are on the wooden batch rail in #4}.  You can purchase almost any color soap and mouthwash to coordinate in your room {Target is good for this with their Method Liquid Hand Soap Refills}.

3. The cabinet was an old dresser that we purchased from Craig’s list for $20, my hubby made the 2 missing top drawers, stained it all and added the bread bowl which my hubby converted to a sink on top of a slab of stone we got from my dad.   He topped it all off with a wall-mounted faucet and drawer pulls from a salvage store.  The whole thing…$75.  The TP is visible for guests who may need it {and kids who never think of refilling it} plus it covers the plumbing that we need available.

4. IKEA wooden bath crate $9.99.  Mine is well used {as you can see} but it is an awesome piece!

Concrete Counter Top

DIY  {Concrete Counter Top}

As the daughter of a cement man, my heart holds a special place for concrete. Sounds weird but it is true!  I love that it can formed to any size, shape, color- and it’s inexpensive which make me love it even more!!  So it was a no brainer to use concrete for my custom bathroom vanity top.  Although the material is cheap, the labor can be expensive so I would highly recommend trying this yourself.  We have attached a DIY tutorial for you that we think will be very helpful.  Concrete is a great alternative to expensive solid surfaces like marble, granite, etc..  The look may not appeal to everyone, but for my contemporary country bathroom, it was the perfect choice. Enjoy!!

June 2011 Natalie’s Bathroom Before and After

Well hello!  Welcome to week one of “Natalie’s Bathroom”.  As you can see, it wasn’t always the oasis shown in the “after” photos.

It took a ton of hard work and long hours, but the end result was better than I had ever envisioned.  Good things come to those who wait and I waited 12 years for this bathroom.

When the day came, I grabbed my crow bar and hammer and the rest was history!!

I worked with the existing walls and plumbing layout to keep the cost down, but then splurged some on the tile flooring and tub (although I was able to still get the tub for a steal!).

Over the next 4 weeks we will feature several DIY projects, recipes, and fabulous finds from “Natalie’s Bathroom”.  We hope you enjoy!

1. Darling Muslin Wreath

2.  Homemade Lemon Scrub

3.  Simple Block Art

4.  Tub Fab Find

5.  Easy Transfer Decor

6.  Homemade Bath Salts

7.  Concrete Countertops

8.  Vanity Table Fab Find
