I’ve found yet another way to use up old pallets from my dad’s shop! Wooden signs!! I think by now I’ve tried every way to transfer images/words onto wood. Remember the old crib I made into a sign? There are so many methods, but I was so excited to try out this method that I found at diddle dumpling. It was so easy and worked perfectly! See my garden sign below along with a written tutorial.

Materials Needed:
A piece of wood
Words printed on basic printer paper {words must be “mirrored” or “flipped”.}
A sponge brush or paper towel.
A bowl of water to wet your brush or paper towel in.
A black fine tip sharpie marker with cap.
Instructions:
Step 1: Print your word or words in a word document in your desired size and font. Be sure to select “mirror or flip your image” in your advanced printing options.
Step 2: Position your printed words ink side down onto your piece of wood then tape in place.
Step 3: Wet the back of your paper with your sponge brush or paper towel. Do not saturate the paper too heavily otherwise the paper will tare.
Step 4: Using the rounded end of your sharpie marker cap, rub over the wet paper. Your words will begin to appear through the wet paper. Once you feel you have gone over it all, lift up a corner of the paper to see how well it has transferred. If needed, re-wet and trace over the words again until the ink has transferred to your liking.
Step 5 {Optional}: You may leave the sign as is if you like the faded weathered look. If you desire a darker sharper look, you can trace over your word with your fine tip sharpie marker. Be sure your wood is completely dry otherwise the marker will bleed.
Step 6 {Optional}: If you’d like to give it a protective coating, you can spray or brush on a coat of clear polyurethane. {I would suggest this step if your sign will be going outside.}

Here’s another sign that I gave my mother-in-law for mother’s day. My husband mounted it onto an old spindle I had. So many possibilities!!
