A Patriotic Porch

One of my favorite parts about our 1913 farmhouse has always been the front porch.  It’s always been a great gathering spot for our boys and their friends.  I remember spending many hours swinging crying babies on our front porch swing or enjoying pop breaks on it while we were in the middle of renovating it.  Over the last few years I’ve decorated it in red, white, and blue in honor of our grand old flag!  Here are a few before shots from about a month ago when my husband cleared it off in preparation of re-staining the floor.

It was so much fun to have a fresh clean space to work with.  Check out the after shots!

Next summer we may have to do a bit of work on the ceiling.  Oh the joys of owning an old hom!

But for now I’ll enjoy my freshly painted porch swing and my plantings that are finally filling in.

These beautiful metal lawn chairs were a hand me down from my Aunt Claudia.  They couldn’t have been a more perfect shade of red!! Stay tuned for the upcoming tutorial on my “Land that I Love” sign!

Here’s a quick source guide in case you’re interested…

Porch Swing- Wooden Porch Swings

Pillows on porch swing- TJ Maxx

White metal lawn furniture- Restoration Hardware (Maple Street Collection)

Ribbon Banner- Michaels Crafts (Marth Stewart)

All blue ceramic pots- TJ Maxx

Galvanized barn lights beside front door- Lowes

PLANTINGS…

My pots are filled with red geraniums, red begonias, chartreuse sweet potato vine, blue lobelia, and white bacopa.  So far so good, but the MN heat and humidity has gotten too unbearable yet!

admin - JJ, Thanks for visiting! If it makes you feel better the porch is covered with baseball mits, buckets of frogs, and lots of other misc. boy stuff at the moment! Not quite as enjoyable as the day of the shoot!:)

JJ - Your porch is gorgeous! I love all the pieces you put together. I’m super jealous that you have such a beautiful space to enjoy. My favorite thing is that blue scale. What a deal at $25! Great work!

Wendy - A tutorial… That’s a good idea!:)

admin - Oh Wendy, thanks for your kind words! The banner was ready made but from last year:( so may not be around anymore. I may have to do a tutorial on how to make your own?!

Wendy - Me again! LOL I went to Michael’s last night and while there looked for the Martha ribbon banner. I couldn’t find it anywhere! Was it a kit or ready made? :)

Wendy - Your porch is wonderful! I have looked at the pictures SO MANY times and just have to tell you how much I love it. I wish I was your neighbor and could look out my window and see it in person. Ü

admin - Thanks Catie! Now I just have to keep all my flowers alive!!

Catie - I love your porch!! It’s soo cute and welcoming. One of things I wish our house had was a porch. They’re soo fun to decorate. You’ve done a lovely job. : )

admin - Thanks Heidi! It is a great place to relax! However, we live next to a pond and I was visiting with a friend out there last night and the frogs were croaking so load we could barely hear each other! Oh well, Nature!

Heidi @ Decor & More - Beautiful, cozy, relaxing! What a great place to spend an afternoon. :) I’m working on my porch, too, so this gives me lots of inspiration to finish the job!
