Photo Pillow

There are so many great pillow designs out there these days which is fun for me as I have a bit of a pillow addiction.  Different pillows can change the whole look of a room at very little cost.  So of course, when designing my basement family room, pillows were on my mind.  After looking on the internet for “Outdoor/hunting/fishing” pillows, I realized there was not much out there and it was up to me to create my own.  This old photo of my dad, uncle, and Grandpa out fishing was the perfect photo to use.  I loved my Grandpa Randy dearly I felt this photo really showed the wonderful father, but also outdoors-man that he was.  So here’s how I did it!

Materials Needed:

~An iron

~A pillow cover (IKEA AINA Pillow Cover $6)

~Iron on transfer paper (we used Avery brand)

~A scanned photography scaled to your preferred size, printed on iron on transfer paper

~Extra accent fabric to

~Heat-n-Bond Fusible Web

~A scissors or pinking shears

First you will need to select a black and white photo to use.

Once you’ve loaded it onto your computer (I scanned this old photo, then copied it onto a Word Doc. where I could then drag it to the size I wanted it.)

I then printed it onto the iron on transfer paper and then trimmed it.

Next I take the extra accent fabric and cut it to size.  You’ll want to use a piece that is bigger than the photo + big enough to trim down after the fusible web is applied.  I then applied the Heat-n-bond to the back of the fabric per the package instructions and trimmed it with a pinking shears to give it a fun and decorative edge.

Once again, per heat-n-bond instructions, I use my iron to bond the accent fabric to my pillow cover.

Next I positioned the trimmed iron-on photo onto the accent fabric, then per the AVERY instructions I use my iron to transfer the image to the accent fabric.

Once the photo had completely transferred (you can peel the corners back and check), you’ll remove the paper backing revealing your photograph.

And there you have it!  A completely custom, unique, personalized pillow!!!  If you’re really talented, you could sew a pillow yourself, but I’m not so this $6 pillow cover was perfect for me.  Plus it’s removable and can be washed!!
